Preparing for India…November 15, 2009

With our adventure beginning in just two months, we are working on all the necessary tasks including coordinating travel logistics, applying for visas, ensuring we have received the proper shots, writing our prayer letters and preparing devotionals.

However, what is absolutely most important is the process we are going through together to prepare our hearts and minds for the work God has for us to do. In addition to some thought provoking and encouraging devotionals at our team monthly meetings led by Anne Storm, we are also reading the Hole in our Gospel by Richard Stearns and Dangerous Surrender by Kay Warren. These books are full of rich takeaways such as the complexity of poverty, our call to love and serve the poor and what it means to truly surrender ourselves to the Lord and His purposes.

Please pray for us as we prepare to carry out the following purpose/mission statement for our trip to India in 2010:
  • To obey the great commission – Acts 1:8 “…and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
  • To be exposed to the stark contrast between light and darkness – Colossians 1:13 “He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son.” Ephesians 5:8 “For at one time you were in darkness, but now you are LIGHT in the Lord.”
  • To grow in generosity and develop a heart for the poor and needy – Proverbs 28:27 “Whoever gives to the poor will not be in want, but he who hides his eyes will get many a curse.” Proverbs 11:24-25 “One gives freely yet gains even more, another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty. A generous man will prosper, he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed.”
  • To go as humble servants ready to serve as God calls – Philippians 2:3-4 “Do nothing from rivalry or conceit, but in humility count others as more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to your own interests but also to the interest of others.”
